In PDF Viewer, you can search for file names as well as the document content across all your folders, or even just the current directory, as required.

Search In Current Folder

To search in the current folder (the default), just select the name of the current folder under the text field. In the following screenshot, the name of the current directory is "Books".

Search All Folders

To search in all folders, just select the "All Folders" button under the text field.

Search Limitations with iCloud Drive

Currently, there are a couple of limitations when searching in iCloud Drive:

  • Selecting "All Folders" does not include results from the iCloud Drive directory
  • Document Content search is not supported at this time.

Spotlight Search

PDF Viewer allows you to search for document content from the system wide Spotlight, enabling you to find the content you need quicker.
If, for some reason, you do not wish to have document content searchable from Spotlight, you can disable it from the Viewer settings, in the Application section.

You can also completely disable Spotlight results for documents in the Viewer by going to the system settings:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Go to General
  3. Select Spotlight Search
  4. Find "PDF Viewer" in the list, and turn off the switch.
